Narendar Yasa – Three Essentials to Commercial Farming Success

Narendar Yasa grew up in rural India where he helped on his parent’s farm until he was old enough to go to school full-time. Although his parents could have used the help on their farms, they also wanted to provide their son with the best opportunities for his own life as possible.

Narendar Yasa is now a pharmacist living and working in New Jersey, where he owns several of his own pharmacies in the state. For a year before he moved to the United States, Yasa worked on his mother’s farm. There, he learned the three essentials for successful commercial farming:

  • Quality products. In order to sell your produce at market, you have to make sure that you have the right quality crops ready to harvest for each season. This means meticulous preparation all year long, especially in the lead-up to harvest time. Narendar Yasa helped his mother prepare their fields to yield the best possible crops to set themselves apart from their competitors.
  • Effective business management. Record keeping and smart budget management are the keys to farming success. Narendar Yasa helped to balance the books and ensure that no unnecessary risks were taken in the planting and harvesting of new crops.
  • Marketing. Those who practice subsistence farming don’t have to worry too much about marketing their products (they have enough to worry about). Commercial farmers can neglect marketing efforts to get their products in the right places to reach the right people.

Narendar Yasa created opportunities for his mother’s farm to succeed in his native village in India. Since he left, the farm has been prospering.
